The Penedès, with a history going back 2,700 years, is the denomination of origin with the longest winemaking tradition in Catalonia. It stretches along a strip of territory between the sea and the mountains, halfway between Barcelona and Tarragona.

Differences in the soil and the climate enable us to divide the DO Penedès terroir into 10 zones each marked by a unique character, ranging from the coastline to vineyards more than 800 metres above sea level. The most important variety is Xarel·lo for white wines, whilst the quality of the red wines is the great unknown and they account for 35% of the total bottles produced under this label.

Its history is the history of the land, agriculture and life. A story hidden underground, now coming to light thanks to work at the site of Font de la Canya, in Avinyonet del Penedès. Archaeologists have discovered artefacts including a bust of the Goddess Demeter from the third century BC.

Furthermore, carbonised and mineralized seeds from the 7th century BC were found at the site showing that the presence of vineyards in the Penedès is no coincidence, but is the stamp of their winemaking legacy.

History, however, is not the only thing that makes these lands special: the winemaking philosophy gives the DO Penedès a special touch that makes it worthy of its badge of excellence.

The quality surrounding the DO Penedès brand is not only a consequence of its tradition and antiquity, but also of its ability to innovate and stay up to date. The DO Penedès has been able to unite the past and the present while looking to the future, taking on the commitment to produce 100% organic wines and working with techniques centred around sustainability.
