DO Alella expands over 31 villages and towns north to Barcelona. It’s the closest wine production area to the city, and wine has been produced here for over 2000 years. The creation of the Alella Vinícola cooperative cellar in the early 20th century helped the world to relate the word Alella with the concept of good quality wine, 50 years before the Consell Regulador was set up.

The terroir of DO Alella is defined by its characteristic soil called sauló (granitic base), the proximity to the sea and the temperate climate. In fact, we can tell a slight difference between the climate at one side and the other of the Serralada Litoral (the mountain range which runs parallel to the sea). We get mature and structured wines from the vineyards near the sea, and finer and more aromatic wines from the vineyards at the other side.

The main grape variety in DO Alella is called pansa blanca. An indigenous variety which is perfectly adapted to this area that has two main features: It is super versatile (young, aged, sparkling, sweet, etc wines can be made with it). And it has an amazing aging potential.
