The amphora that exists in the logo of the Denomination of Origin Tarragona synthesizes the millenary presence of viticulture in this Denomination of Origin. It also links us to the Roman Empire and its cultural legacy, since the amphora was the ceramic container used in ancient times to store and transport wine that was exported to all of Europe, where its geographical origin from Tarragona was already stated.

The territory of the DO Tarragona is located between the Ebro River and the Mediterranean Sea. The typically Mediterranean climate, the marinade, has a great influence on the wines that are produced.

The relief of the DO is simple, most of the territory is below 600m and most of the vineyards are between 100 and 400m.

The white wines are made mainly with autochthonous varieties, highlighting among them the Macabeo, the firm commitment to single out the DO Tarragona.

Rosés; firm and aromatic reds, mostly from varieties such as Tempranillo or Garnacha, and sparkling wines, from the traditional and ancestral method.

The Tarragona Classics: from which the DO Tarragona was founded more than 75 years ago, they make up the treasure of the DO Tarragona from which this important wine region has grown. Mistela, muscatel, garnacha, rancid or vimblanc, from overripe grapes.

Today, some thirty wineries make their wines within the modernist cooperatives designed by architects such as Cèsar Martinell more than a century ago, in family wineries with five generations, or in new wineries promoted in many cases by young oenologists from the Faculty. of Oenology of the URV in Tarragona.

The DO Tarragona wineries have come together to create the DO Tarragona Wine Route. A route that offers you the possibility of entering a privileged area for the cultivation of vines with unique experiences that combine wine with gastronomy, sports or culture. Proposals aimed at different types of public that invite you to have a good time and enjoy some wines that speak of landscapes that go from Tarragona and the Mediterranean Sea to the rural interior of the Tarragona countryside, the Sierra de Prades and the Ebro river valley. Diversity of activities, wines and tourist attractions for which it is worth letting yourself be seduced.
