In DO Montsant, the landscape and the wine have gone hand in hand over the centuries. The old vines, cared as real treasures, have History with capital letters. A History written at the youngest DO in Catalonia, which, with renewed drive and enthusiasm, walks towards the future. The landscape has always been understood by the DO as an element of identity and as a cultural value.
In an eminently agricultural area, this landscape is part of the heritage wealth that has always been considered one of the most precious assets by the winegrowers and wineries that make up the DO Montsant. And, as it could not be otherwise, the wines of the DO Montsant are faithful to their origin, resulting in unique wines that speak of a Mediterranean climate full of contrasts, the rugged topography, the variability of soils, the grape varieties and the hand of man influence to give to unique wines, with their own identity and unmistakable character and richness.
Red wines are the most common in DO Montsant. Of the nearly 7.5 million kg of annual grape production, more than 90% correspond to red varieties, where Garnatxa and Carinyena stand out, for being the best adapted to the conditions of the DO and the ones that best transmit its identity. Both give full-bodied wines, very suitable for aging. Red Grenache has a very sensual aromatic profile, with great complexity, and produces well-structured wines.
On the other hand, Carinyena is aromatically very intense and produces wines of moderate degree and with very good acidity. White wines are mostly made with the two traditional varieties of the area: white Garnatxa Blanca, with more body and structure, and Macabeu, which produces finer wines. Both are distinguished by their silkiness, structure, and elegant and subtle aromas.
A territory where from large and historic cooperatives to small family wineries, including private initiatives, coexist, all with a common goal: to produce quality wines that transport to the richness of this diverse territory.
